  1. Sparkler holders should be standing up, not sitting down.
  2. Wear closed-toe shoes, definitely not flip flops, when you’re handling sparklers.
  3. Give each child her own individual sparkler and then light it … don’t pass an already lit sparkler.
  4. Lighting more than one stick at a time can be dangerous.
  5. Everyone using a sparkler should be at least six feet from one another.
  6. While it may seem festive to wave a sparkler, that’s a big no-no.
  7. Sparklers aren’t batons. Never toss or throw them.
  8. The stick can remain hot long after the flame is gone, so it should be disposed of in a bucket of water.

For more sparkler safety guidelines visit www.fireworksafety.com.

Following these safety precautions will ensure a safe and happy Fourth!

 Per Kansas Statute #8-1571,
the Fire Department
would like to remind everyonethere is to be
NO PARKING with 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

In a training exercise held Sunday, the Fire Department
found many vehicles have been parking too close to the hydrants.
If you see spray painted markings in and near the hydrants,
that mark is the legal measurement that vehicles
are not allowed to park in.
With many new hydrants in our area,
some people may have to change their parking habits.

At the time of a fire and when a fire hydrant is needed,
is not the time to find your vehicle parked too close to a fire hydrant.
Also, please keep shrubs, trees and other yard ornaments
clear of the hydrants.

The Fire Department appreciates your cooperation.
